Better Posture Starts with Small Habits

Simple changes for reading, scrolling, and moving through your day—plus an exercise to help your shoulders move more freely.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Bring Your Screen Up. Give Your Neck a Break.

Ever look up from your phone or a good book and realize how long you have been in the same position? Bring your reading material to a comfortable height, support your arms, and change positions throughout the day.

These figures are estimates from a model. They show how head position changes estimated load; they do not predict pain or injury. Read the study.

Three Habits to Practice This Week

  1. Raise it up. Bring your phone, tablet, or book toward eye level. Rest your elbows on a pillow or armrest so your shoulders can relax.
  2. Settle into a relaxed position. Let your head rest comfortably over your shoulders. Keep your jaw relaxed and breathe easily.
  3. Break up long stretches of sitting. After reading or checking your phone, change position, take a short walk, or gently move your shoulders.

Think Comfort, Movement, and Strength

Posture changes with the task in front of you. Give yourself options: adjust your setup, move regularly, and keep building strength. You do not need to hold one “perfect” position all day.

EXERCISE OF THE WEEK

Seated or Standing Wall Angels

Think of making a snow angel against the wall. This simple movement practices shoulder mobility and upper-back control. Choose the seated or standing version that feels best.

How to Do It

  1. Set up. Stand with your back to the wall and knees soft, or sit on a stable bench close to the wall with your feet flat.
  2. Make a W. Bend your elbows into a comfortable W shape. Let the backs of your hands face the wall.
  3. Glide and return. Slowly raise your arms, then lower them. Keep your ribs steady and breathe normally.
  4. Use your range. Move only as far as feels comfortable. Your hands and elbows may come away from the wall.

Start with 1–2 Sets of 6–8 Slow Repetitions

Rest between sets. Keep every repetition smooth and comfortable, and ask your trainer to help you find your starting range.

If Your Shoulders Feel Tight

Start with your elbows lower and use a smaller movement. The seated version may make it easier to focus on your upper body.

Ready for a Little More?

Add a brief pause near the top or lower your arms more slowly. Build control before reaching higher.

THIS WEEK'S FOCUS

Make a One-Minute Reset Your New Habit

Choose one daily cue, such as finishing a chapter or putting down your phone. Change position and move for a minute. Try wall angels on three days this week.

Keep It Comfortable

Stop for pain, tingling, or dizziness. Ask your trainer about an easier variation, and seek medical advice for persistent neck pain or symptoms traveling into your arm.
